NISSMAP Apprentices Meet V8 Star at Barbagallo Raceway
NISSMAP (Nissan Mentored Apprenticeship Program) automotive apprentices rubbed elbows at a V8 Supercars event held in Perth with pit expert Andre Heimgartner. This was possible through the innovative partnership between Nissan Australia and WPC Group. They together went on to take out the win at the 2016 Australian Apprenticeships Employer Award. The trip was covered by the cash prize.
Michael said: “I really enjoyed the two day event and thanked WPC Group for the opportunity to not just attend but visit the Kelly Team pits. It was amazing to see the cars on the track, but it blew us away to be able to talk to Andre from the Kelly Racing Team. We talked about the track conditions and he answered all of our questions.”
WPC General Manager Andrew Sezonov said: “It’s not unusual for our top apprentices, who are working with host employers such as Nissan, to visit racing car events or even work under the bonnet of supercars across the country as part of their training. That’s really transforming what it means to be a mechanic.”
